Golden Strong
Community & Mission
Golden Strong is an annual signature event hosted by MA Golden Meetups, bringing together hundreds of golden retrievers and their families on the eve of the Boston Marathon. What began as a local tribute has grown into a powerful community movement dedicated to spreading joy, fostering connection, and taking a stand against canine cancer.
The heart of the event is the Golden Strong Walk at Boston Common, where a "sea of gold" gathers to meet marathon runners and celebrate the unique bond between goldens and their humans. The organization’s primary goal is to turn this collective passion into progress; by donating a portion of proceeds from merchandise and event registrations to the Morris Animal Foundation, the group directly supports the Golden Retriever Lifetime Study. This vital research aims to identify risk factors and find a cure for the cancers that impact so many beloved pets.
While the event was originally sparked by the inspiring legacy of the marathon’s famous cheerleaders, Spencer and Penny, it has evolved into a broader mission. Today, Golden Strong represents the strength of the entire golden retriever community, united in their commitment to health research and their shared goal of helping every dog live a long, happy, and vibrant life.
